“I am not a bounty hunter.” These words are uttered by Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) at the beginning of the first trailer for The Mandalorian spinoff series, The Book of Boba Fett. While we all know him as one of the galaxy’s most feared bounty hunters, this trailer shows that Fett is leaving his old ways behind for a more favorable position of power.
The last time we saw Boba was in the post-credit scene of The Mandalorian Season 2 finale that confirmed the spinoff was coming, he had returned to Jabba the Hutt’s palace in Tatooine and killed Bib Fortuna, now taking over Jabba’s old position in the criminal underworld. Of course, this will have some backlash and some of this is featured in this trailer. With Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) at his side, Boba will now try to stake his claim as a powerful leader in the criminal world of Star Wars. However, Boba plans to lead differently than his old employer.
“Jabba ruled with fear, I intend to rule with respect,” Boba says.
The trailer for The Book of Boba Fett shows off what looks to be the Star Wars version of The Godfather. There is even a scene where Boba Fett is hosting a dinner with many of the other underworld leaders and gives them an offer they may find to be mutually beneficial. The other leaders appear to threaten Boba but he doesn’t even flinch and ask them to speak freely. This series looks to give viewers a more in-depth look at the criminal underbelly of the galaxy, something that has been explored in animated shows but had only been seen briefly in live-action films and TV shows.
The Book of Boba Fett series is starring Morrision and Wen and is executive produced by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and Robert Rodriguez. Rodriguez directed Boba Fett’s return in The Mandalorian Season 2 episode 6. The Book of Boba Fett is coming to Disney+ on December 29.
