The Shining star Shelley Duvall is ending her 20-year hiatus with the indie horror thriller The Forest Hills. Scott Goldberg wrote and directed it. The film will co-star Edward Furlong, Chiko Mendez, and Dee Wallace. Furlong is known for his role in Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Wallace is known for the classic horror films Cujo, The Howling, and Critters. Duvall will play the mother of Mendez’s mentally unstable character in The Forest Hills. Her character will also be his inner voice. Scott Hansen is producing with Dreznick Goldberg Productions and Digital Thunderdome Studios. Goldberg is co-producing it and has expressed being a fan of Duvall’s from her work in The Shining. The last film Duvall starred in before this indie horror thriller was Manna from Heaven in 2002, opposite Shirley Jones, Cloris Leachman, and Louise Fletcher. She had renounced her retirement that same year.

“The Shining” May Be a Classic, But It Was Not Smooth Sailing for Shelley Duvall

Stanley Kubrick’s work on The Shining pushed Shelley Duvall to her limits. It’s a horror classic, but it has left a bad impression on Duvall, despite being one of her most recognizable roles. Somehow Scott Goldberg has pulled Shelley Duvall back into horror with The Forest Hills. She has left her retirement to star in this indie horror thriller. This is nothing short of a miracle. Prior to her retirement, Duvall had credits in the films Annie Hall, Three Women, The Shining, Popeye, and Brewster McCloud. She worked with reputable directors like Robert Altman and Steven Soderbergh. The public may never know how Duvall was convinced to return to the horror genre with The Forest Hills. Whatever the reason, audiences will get to see Shelley Duvall in her element once again, thanks to the indie horror thriller.

There is no official release date for The Forest Hills.
