The Good Doctor starring Freddie Highmore, is getting a spinoff series called The Good Lawyer. It will have a female lead, but neither ABC nor Sony TV has named the actor playing them. The spinoff will have a backdoor pilot during Season 6 of The Good Doctor. Two characters from The Good Lawyer, Joni and Janet, will appear in episode 613 of the upcoming season. Davide Shore and Liz Friedman wrote the series. They are the current showrunners for The Good Doctor and co-executive produce it. The lead of the spinoff is Joni, a twenty-something woman who struggles with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) but is a skilled lawyer. She will be the defense attorney for Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore), who finds himself in some hot water. Joni is new to her elite law firm and is eager to please. Her OCD does start to impede her personal and professional life.

The American Remake of “The Good Doctor” Starring Freddie Highmore Has Been a Success for ABC

The Good Doctor is going on six seasons strong. It was adapted from the 2013 Korean drama series Good Doctor. Freddie Highmore plays Dr. Shaun Murphy. Seeing his brother die as a child inspired Dr. Murphy to become a doctor. The Good Doctor has received critical acclaim and has convinced ABC to keep renewing it. Now The Good Doctor is another one of ABC’s shows to get a spinoff. Freddie Highmore and the writers of the show must be doing something right. Just like The Good Doctor, The Good Lawyer will show the protagonist’s struggles because of their condition. There will also be a mentor-mentee relationship between Janet and Joni, just like there is with Glassman and Shaun. The dynamic is said to be very different, though. Friedman will executive produce The Good Lawyer too.

There is no premiere date for the first season of The Good Lawyer.
