A few years ago, it was reported that The Goonies spinoff was in the works. Years later, we got an update from producer Gail Berman during an interview with Variety. Berman is partnering with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment and The Donner Company film producer Lauren Shuler Donner to make a series for Disney Plus titled Our Time. Sarah Watson (Parenthood) will write and executive produce the series.
The inspiration for Berman came during the producer’s time at Paramount. A group of fans made a shot-for-shot recreation of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Although it was not met with positivity from others at the studio, Berman was inspired.
The Goonies Spinoff in the Making
For now, we have possibilities of who is attached to the project. Greg Mottola (Superbad) is reported to direct The Goonies spinoff series. Attached to possibly star is Caitlin FitzGerald (Inventing Anna), Livi Birch (Stranger Things), Jade Fernandez (Deep Water), Ramon Rodriguez (Battle Los Angeles), and Rachael Thompson (WandaVision).
