Brandy will play Cinderella again for the Disney+ movie musical franchise, The Pocketwatch. It’s part of the Descendants universe. The singer and actor played Cinderella for the 1997 Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. The late Whitney Houston played her fabulous fairy godmother. The Disney+ movie musical franchise will star Kyle Cantrall as Red. She is the rebellious teenage daughter of the Queen of Hearts, alongside Chloe, the cheerful but naive daughter of Cinderella and Prince Charming. The two must join forces using a magical pocket watch to stop a coup in Auradon. Rita Ora is also signed on to star in the Disney+ film. China Anne McClain, Dara Reneé, Morgan Dudley, Joshua Colley, Melanie Paxson, and more will also be in it. Jennifer Phang is directing it. Dan Frey and Russell Sommer wrote the script. Suzanne Todd, Gary Marsh, and Phang are executive producers.
Brandy as Cinderella Was Groundbreaking
For fans of Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, the creates lots of feelings of nostalgia to see Brandy as Cinderella again. The singer had a blossoming career in the 90s with her music and the series Moesha. Brandy was the first Black Cinderella for the 1997 Disney film. There was even a reunion special with the original cast of the 1997 film that’s available on Hulu. Who better to play Cinderella again than Brandy for The Pocketwatch! Whitney Houston may not be able to be the fairy godmother again, but at least we still have Brandy. The movie musical franchise Descendants has been a popular go-to for Disney+. Now with Brandy as part of the cast, the universe further expands with The Pocketwatch. The attention may not be all on Brandy for the film, but it sure is a throwback to see her as the princess once again.
