One of James Cameron’s many box office juggernauts will again come back to dominate theaters. For its 25th anniversary, a remastered Titanic comes into theaters in time for Valentine’s Day. The version will include 3D, 4K, HDR, and a higher frame rate, Deadline reports. It will sail to theaters on February 10, 2023, for international audiences. While Disney takes care of international, domestic is under Paramount, which will announce the date soon.
Jon Landau, the director’s producing partner, announced the news at CineEurope in Barcelona. The producer then showed off a 3D clip to show what the attendees could expect from the rerelease.
It looks like the next few years will be a Cameron era. Before the remastered Titanic, Avatar will get an update to its visuals for a rerelease in September ahead of its long-awaited sequel, Avatar: The Way Of Water, when it hits theaters on December 14 and then in North America on the 16th.
Titanic remastered to make audiences cry again
Not even needing the remastered edition, Titanic is the third highest-grossing film of all time, with $2.2 billion worldwide. On its original release, it made $600 million domestic and $1.2 billion international for a total of $1.8 billion. Across its other releases, it went up to the $2 billion mark. The film won 11 Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, and more. It had three more nominations that it did not win.
The film blew up Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Since then, Winslet has done projects like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Steve Jobs, and Mare of Easttown. She will also star in The Way Of Water. Meanwhile, DiCaprio has done hits like The Wolf of Wallstreet, The Revenant, and Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood. Both are Oscar winners, with Winslet winning for The Reader and six other nominations. DiCaprio won for The Revenant and has been nominated for six others too.
