Over the past few weeks, we’ve been able to get a better grasp on the features and type of experience that Call of Duty‘s new multiplayer service Elite will provide. In addition to offering community services, it will provide stat-tracking and user-generated content sharing, as well as online competitions. Set to launch this fall with the release of Modern Warfare 3, it’s been announced that it’ll require a monthly subscription though some elements will be free to all Call of Duty gamers.

Activision Chief Executive Eric Hirshberg recently told the Guardian:

Hirshberg went on to state the importance of linear content as a method to keep players entertained and interested well after the launch date: “If you’re a sports fan, there are lots of ways for you to connect with that hobby, that passion, not just on the day that the games are played, but throughout the week, and we wanted to give [Call of Duty players] real entertainment value.”

It’ll certainly be interesting to see what stars the Call of Duty franchise can lock up. Is there a chance that a celebrity will make an appearance at Activision’s show floor area this year at E3? Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long to find out.
