Coming off the news that The Umbrella Academy will end after its fourth season, co-creator Steve Blackman will helm the Netflix adaption of the PS4 game Horizon Zero Dawn. This comes in with an eight-figure multi-year deal where he will helm the PlayStation series and the drama Orbital.

Not much is known about the series. Horizon Zero Dawn, and its 2022 sequel Forbidden West, stars Aloy (Ashly Burch) as the protagonist, who will lead in the series. The character who has become one of the many mascots for Sony Interactive Entertainment’s console will be the leading character in the post-apocalyptic series.

The series will be executive produced by Blackman, Michelle Lovretta, Abbey Morris, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, Jan-Bart van Beek, Ben McCaw, Roy Lee, and Matthew Ball.

Horizon Zero Dawn to be led by Umbrella Academy co-creator

The Horizon Zero Dawn adaption is part of PlayStation’s effort to take its IP and translate it to film and TV. Uncharted with Tom Holland brought Nathan Drake to the big screen. Another Naughty Dog IP, The Last of Us, will hit HBO next year. Twisted Metal, Ghost of Tsushima, and Metal Gear Solid are just a few of the other games that will get turned over to a new medium for non-gamers and gamers alike to watch rather than play.

Horizon Zero Dawn follows Aloy, who discovers secrets about her world. The old world was destroyed as humans designed advanced AI and animalistic robots that ravaged the planet. The 2017 game became a massive hit, selling over 20 million copies between its original PS4 release and its port to PC. Its PS4 and PS5 sequel, Forbidden West, also found great success.

While Steve Blackman preps for Horizon Zero Dawn, he is currently gearing up to end The Umbrella Academy with its fourth season, and all three seasons of the Netflix series are currently available.
