One of the last things we would have expected to come out of the COVID-19 pandemic was a film about Poptarts, but comedian Jerry Seinfeld is set to do just that with his upcoming Netflix release, Unfrosted. Based upon a stand-up bit from his last Netflix special, 23 Hours to Kill (and even previous acts if you really dig), Unfrosted is a comedy covering the origins of the enigmatic fruit-filled pastry. Seinfeld had this to say on the inspiration for the movie:

Seinfeld will direct, produce, and star in Unfrosted, which has been co-written with Spike Feresten and Barry Marder and is set to begin production next Spring. This project follows a series of previously successful deals between Netflix and Seinfeld, such as Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee coming to the platform in 2017 and the planned addition of Seinfeld to Netflix this coming Fall.

Seinfeld discusses the process behind writing jokes such as his infamous Poptart bit in the video below, claiming that the joke took him as long as two years to craft.

Seinfeld’s experience with movies thus far has been somewhat limited. He co-wrote, produced, and voiced the lead role Barry B. Benson in the 2007 DreamWorks Animation hit Bee Movie. He also was the executive producer and a performer in the 2002 documentary Comedian. Hopefully, he can replicate the magic and immense success from his work on Seinfeld with Unfrosted.
