After catching buzz for its absurd premise, the Winnie the Pooh horror film feels more real now that we have its first full trailer (seen below). The first look at the film shows a slasher take on the once family-friendly bear who has gained a taste for blood rather than honey.

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey sees the bear and his best friend Piglet start killing after Christopher Robin leaves them for college. Now, young students must face the wrath of the bear and pig. Starring in his feature-length debut, the honey-loving bear is played by Craig David Dowsett, his piggy best friend is played by Chris Cordell, and Nikolai Leon as Christopher Robin. It also stars May Kelly, Amber Doig-Thorne, Natasha Tosini, Richard D. Myers, and Maria Taylor. It is directed and written by Rhys Waterfield.

Winnie the Pooh horror movie gets its first trailer

The violent take on A.A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh was shot in 10 days, as Waterfield revealed in an interview with Variety. It was shot around Ashdown Forest in England, which was the inspiration behind the Hundred Acre Woods from the original stories. In the interview, he also revealed it would strike a balance between absurdity and horror.

Liberties had to be taken to make a Winnie the Pooh horror movie. While the property went to the public domain this year, opening it up for all sorts of interpretations, some rights are still owned by Disney. The bear had to let go of his red shirt for lumberjack attire. Some characters will not be seen in the film due to this too. While we get references to Eeyore, we will not see Tigger due to how the rights play out.

No release date is set, but it will come out later this year. Waterfield and Scott Jeffrey produce Blood and Honey. ITN studios will distribute.
