Hollywood icon Selena Gomez and political powerhouse Stacey Abrams are joining forces to produce Won’t Be Silent, a documentary focusing on female voices in music and film that have paved the way for societal change. The film, which began production on Wednesday, also has Kristi Jacobson, Angus Wall, and Kent Kubena attached, along with Gomez’s and Abrams’ own production companies.

According to Gomez, Abrams, and the various attached staff, Won’t Be Silent will act as a celebration of all of the female artists, singers, and songwriters that have impacted the world – the entire world, not just the music industry – by bringing a variety of issues to the forefront of their audiences’ attention. Per the official logline, “The film is a love letter to the women in music who have used their voices to change the course of history with their art and activism.”

Selena Gomez, who’s been deeply involved in Hollywood and music since her teenage years, and Stacey Abrams, who served in the Georgia House of Representatives for over a decade, will be teaming up to produce the film for an eventual release on Discovery+. Won’t Be Silent will be produced via Gomez’s July Moon Productions and Abrams’ Sage Works Productions, along with David Seidler, Abe Gurko, Clara Hendon, and the documentary’s creator and director, Kristi Jacobson.
