Paramount and the makers of 1923 have officially announced a release date for the new series, which will act as a prequel to Yellowstone, a Paramount series exploring the lives of the Dutton family, owners of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch in Montana. Show creator Taylor Sheridan has announced that 1923 will be premiering on December 18th, 2022, along with releasing new information about the show itself.
Yellowstone first premiered on Paramount+ in June 2018 and stars Kevin Costner (Open Range) as John Dutton, the widowed head of the Dutton family, and Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, and Wes Bentley as Kayce, Beth, and Jamie Dutton, John’s children. Yellowstone follows the Dutton family, owners of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, as they deal with not only the groups trying to take their land – groups ranging from suit-and-tie businessmen to the nearby Indian Reservation – to internal family drama that leads to relationships being formed and broken as secrets unravel.
First announced by Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan in February 2022, 1923 will follow an earlier generation of Duttons, led by Jacob Dutton (Harrison Ford) and his wife Cara (Helen Mirren), as they lead their family and the ranch through pandemics, droughts, the Great Depression and Prohibition, as well as dealing with the after-effects of World War I. Brandon Sklenar, Darren Mann, Michelle Randolph, James Badge Dale, Marley Shelton, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, Julia Schlaepfer, and Jerome Flynn will also star.
‘1923’ Gets a Release Date on Paramount+
Audiences have known that 1923 would be premiering in December for some time, but now eager fans have a date to put on their calendars: 1923 will reportedly be releasing on Sunday, December 18th on Paramount+ for audiences in the United States and Canada, with the series releasing for audiences in the U.K. and Australia the following day, December 19th, according to Deadline. Release dates for other international audiences will reportedly be revealed at a later date.
With the Yellowstone prequel edging closer to its expected release date, Collider reports that series creator Taylor Sheridan has also delivered the news that 1923, which was initially expected to be a single-season limited series like fellow prequel series 1883, has been split into two eight-episode seasons, meaning that fans will be getting an expanded storyline but they might have to wait for it. News about the second season is currently scarce, but more information will likely be released after 1923 premieres on Paramount+.
1923 will be produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios, and Bosque Ranch Productions, with Taylor Sheridan, John Linson, Art Linson, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, and Ben Richardson acting as executive producers. The series will be available on Paramount+ starting December 18th, 2022.
